Laying foundations for future careers at Barclay Street !

Springburn Academy Glasgow school pupils laid the foundations for their future careers with a day helping out at a construction site. Ten S4 students from Springburn Academy tried out their skills at the Loretto Housing site at Barclay Street opposite their school. The pupils, who are all working towards a Construction Skills Certificate (CSC) qualification, tried their hands at bricklaying and plaster boarding on site. The visit was arranged as part of a 12-week programme developed by McTaggart’s Community Benefit Officer to help students gain practical skills and experience needed to get ahead in their career through tutoring, career support and hands-on experience on the site. Cadder goes on-site with its first new build housing development

Cadder Housing Association has commenced the development of 50 new homes for rent on the site of the former St. Agnes Primary School at Tresta Road in Cadder. The new housing development will provide a variety of house types and sizes, which will balance the Association’s stock portfolio and contribute towards Glasgow City Council’s City Plan. The development of high quality homes will cost £5.9 million and will be funded by Housing Association Grant of £3.7m through Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government and £2.2m by the Association. The new housing is scheduled for completion in November 2018. Work begins on new affordable homes for West Lothian new town

Work has started on almost 100 homes for social rent in a sought-after development on the outskirts of Edinburgh. West Lothian Housing Partnership (WLHP), part of Wheatley Group, and West Lothian Council are together building a total of 96 new affordable homes as part of the major expansion of Winchburgh village. The new homes are part of the £1billion redevelopment and expansion of Winchburgh. It will see the historic village transformed with a new town centre – the first in West Lothian since the 1960s – as well as new schools, healthcare facilities, leisure and play areas and up to 3450 new homes over the next 20 years. Housing minister visits new Clyde Valley Housing Group development

Minister for local government and housing, Kevin Stewart MSP, visited East Kilbride to see Clyde Valley Housing Association’s recently completed development of 109 new homes at Mavor Avenue. Located on a former industrial site, the properties provide new, essential, affordable housing of the highest standard. Comprising 93 units for social rent and 16 apartments for mid-market rent, there is a mix of semi-detached, terraced, cottage flats and apartment blocks. The community has been shortlisted for the Herald Property Awards, under the Affordable Housing Development of the Year 2017. Meet our new apprentices

McTaggart Construction have taken on three new trade apprentices. The boys, aged 17-20 years old, will join the North Ayrshire company’s training and development programme which seeks to grow young talent and facilitate long-term career development opportunities to support the growth of the business. North Ayrshire residents, Ben Walker from Irvine and Bradley McMartin from Kilwinning, both 17 years old, have started following work placements within McTaggart Construction’s Customer Care division. Alex Nicol, Customer Care Manager commented “We were impressed by both Ben and Bradley’s positive attitude and work ethic during their placements.
