Taking a Seat at the Table: Why I’m Proud to Support the Connect Hub
When McTaggart Construction chose Simon Community Scotland as one of three organisations to support through our 80th anniversary giving programme, I remember feeling extremely proud to work for an organisation that is committed to supporting such a worthy cause. The work they do is remarkable.
I’m therefore delighted to share that I’ve recently joined the Connect Hub as an Ambassador. It’s a role I’m genuinely excited about and includes raising awareness, building connections and bringing a commercial perspective to how the Hub can develop its reach and long-term sustainability.
What is the Connect Hub?
Opened in May 2024, the Connect Hub is Simon Community Scotland’s dedicated support space for women in Glasgow who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. It’s built around trust, offering practical, immediate support alongside longer-term pathways through education, employability and community connection.
The support on offer ranges from clothing provision, shower access to digital inclusion programmes, group work and creative workshops. What ties it together is a trauma-informed, relational approach: the team walks alongside women at their own pace, for as long as they need. Women’s voices shape the service from the inside out – fundamental to how the Hub operates.
Why this feels right
At McTaggart Construction, we build homes. But we’ve always understood that a home is only part of what makes a community work. Supporting the Connect Hub through our anniversary programme felt right because Simon Community Scotland’s values align closely with our own: person-centred, relationship-led, and rooted in a genuine belief that everyone deserves stability and a fair chance.
Taking on this Ambassador role is a natural next step in that relationship. I’m looking forward to playing my part and to connecting more people with an organisation doing work that truly matters.
