Sustainability is at the heart of how we plan, build and deliver every project

We understand that the way we build today shapes the world our communities will live in tomorrow. That is why we are committed to reducing our environmental impact across every project - from the materials we choose to the way we manage our sites.

We formally measure our Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions every year using UK government carbon reporting standards, giving us a clear baseline against which to track real progress. Our targets are long-term and measurable, aligned directly with Scotland's commitment to reach net zero by 2045.

Our Targets and Goals

Our carbon reduction targets

From our 2020/21 baseline, we have committed to a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, and a 90% reduction by 2045, with any remaining unavoidable emissions offset through accredited schemes. We are already well on our way - our most recent figures show a 38% reduction in absolute emissions and a 41% improvement in carbon intensity since our baseline year.

Renewable Energy

All our fixed offices run on 100% renewable electricity and green gas, certified through REGO-accredited tariffs. On our construction sites, we use low-energy eco-cabins fitted with PIR lighting sensors, thermostat-controlled heating, PV panels and enhanced insulation - generating around 69% less CO2 than a standard site cabin. Our long-term commitment is for all offices and sites to be powered entirely by renewable energy by 2045 or sooner.

Responsible sourcing

On recently completed projects, 85% of all materials used came from sustainable sources, including products with FSC(R) or PEFC certification, BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing, and ISO 14001 accreditation. Our primary timber supplier, MGM Timber, is FSC(R) and PEFC certified and operates under ISO 50001 energy management standards.

Lean, Clean, Green - our approach to every project

Every project follows our Lean, Clean, Green hierarchy. We start with fabric-first design -- optimising insulation, U-values, airtightness and solar gain before specifying building services. We then review all systems for efficiency before selecting renewables. All current and future schemes (around 1,000 units in our pipeline) incorporate air or ground source heat pumps as standard, supporting Scotland's move away from gas heating.

Transparency and accountability

We publish an annual Carbon Reduction Plan to PPN 06/21 standard and participate in the Net Zero Nation programme, having completed the Net Zero Accelerator in Ayrshire - an accredited 12-month programme of sustainable development. We are actively developing our Scope 3 reporting capability to capture wider supply chain and commuting emissions. Our Climate Change Plan is formally approved at senior leadership level.

Our Projects

Building For a Better Tomorrow

Our work expands across the east and south, with ambitions to deliver more modern projects. We're built on integrity but always focused on community.

What Our Clients Say

Proven to Last, Trusted to Deliver

It was a difficult site to manage with the tenants who would finally occupy the new houses living on the perimeter of the site. The site staff were exemplary in building relationships with the tenants. McTaggart offered a transparent and collaborative approach throughout the project. We have already instructed McTaggart to deliver our phase 2 - this is the best testimony.

Dawn Conner
